This report summarizes the major findings and recommendations from a research and practice project on five-year-old children's psychosocial well-being. It took place in two regions of Ethiopia between 2016 and 2018: Amhara and the Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples' Region (SNNPR). It included three components: a research study, a program to improve the quality of four preschools located in the study areas, and the production of a short documentary film titled "Happy young learners in Ethiopia." All of these actions were undertaken to inform Ethiopian practice, teacher education, and policy in the field of Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE).en_US

I. ECEC Play Hubs are neighborhood playgrounds for children ages 0 to 4 and their families. A space where children and their families of all ages can play games together, where parents and grandparents can receive information about child rearing, health, early learning, and development, and where they can meet with other parents to participate in creative and social activities. Additionally, the Hub serves as a toy library, where families can borrow toys and learn how to properly use them. Finally, the hubs connect families to other community resources such as health centers, early childhood education centers, and schools. Thus, this ECEC Play Hub Operating Guidelines outlines the steps necessary to establish and operate an ECEC Play Hub.en_US
