Abstract: | The main purpose of this publication, as others, is to provide relevant, reliable and up to date data on education in Ethiopia from kindergarten to higher education. Education Statistics Annual Abstract is used as source of information for the various stakeholders in the education sector, especially for the purposes of research, decision making, planning, and policy formulation both at regional and national levels. |
Description: | It mainly encompasses data on basic variables at all levels of education ranging from kindergarten to higher education. The publication contains both descriptive and analytical summary on enrolment, teachers, sections, schools, etc. The data are further disaggregated by level of education, sex, type, region, urban and rural areas in order to see regional, urban/rural and gender disparities. In addition, this document briefly explained the modality of pre-primary education delivered in Ethiopia. 1. Kindergarten (3 years): Predominantly operated by non-governmental organizations (NGOs), communities, private institutions, and faith based organizations. Of the three modalities, children who attend kindergarten are most likely to be sufficiently prepared for pre-primary. 2. 2. Child to Child (1 year): Older children play with younger siblings or other children in the neighborhood, supervised by qualified teachers. To teach basic skills such as counting, differentiating colors, and identifying letters before joining primary school 3. 3. ‘O’ Class (1 year): Reception class based in government primary schools for children aged 6, before starting formal schooling at age 7. |
