For several years, play was regarded as a joke and a waste of time. Nevertheless, numerous scientific studies undertaken in the modern time have established the potential benefits of play for child development. As such, this module is intended to enhance preschool teachers' awareness of best practices for teaching and caring for pre-school children in order to foster their physical, mental, emotional, and social development through play. The module is broken up into five chapters that cover the concept of play and its history, preschoolers' developmental milestones, the preschool play curriculum, the importance of play, and playing materials.en_US
